Samuel Fury Childs Daly is a historian of law and warfare.

Daly is an Associate Professor of History and the College at the University of Chicago. He holds a Ph.D. from Columbia University and master’s degrees from the School of Oriental and African Studies and the University of Cambridge. He previously taught at Duke University.

He is the author of Soldier’s Paradise: Militarism in Africa After Empire (Duke University Press, 2024) and A History of the Republic of Biafra: Law, Crime, and the Nigerian Civil War (Cambridge University Press, 2020). He is currently writing two books: a global history of military desertion and a history of military imposters.
